Mercy School Library is a treasured learning space and resource centre. Managed by a dedicated librarian, the container doors open wide each day, welcoming eager minds to borrow books or read in the adjacent reading area. This library has something for everyone.
Handmade with Love: The Backpack Borrowing Bags
In 2023, something truly heartwarming happened at the Mercy School Library. Sewing groups from Gippsland Victoria poured their creativity and love into crafting special backpack borrowing bags for the children. These unique bags were designed to ensure that the young readers could take extra special care of the books they borrowed. Each bag not only carried books, but also carried the spirit of community and generosity.
The Shipping Container Library: A Labor of Love
In 2019, a remarkable endeavour took place as volunteers from across Victoria came together to create the Shipping Container Library for the Mercy School. This collaborative effort saw the collection of an impressive 13,500 books transforming this humble shipping container. The library became a testament to what can be achieved when a community joins hands for a common cause.
Outdoor Adventures in Reading
Fast forward to September 2024, where a special class was spotted having a reading lesson outside the library. With the fresh breeze and the warmth of the sun, the students attended the teacher's instructions on how to borrow books.
...so wonderful to see the students learning how to correctly use the Library! Heart warming knowing we played a small part in this worthy vision coming to fruition....
