Mercy Compassionate Center and in particular the Mercy Church is bringing about change within the local value system through intentional programs designed to impact children and youth.
Bad cultural & traditional practices are rampart in Uriri and much of Migori County. Most children/teens are left on their own without responsible adults to advance values, pass relevant positive cultural values, instil biblical discipline and reinforce good behaviour.
During the convention the Lord warmed up the Church and Community to be one family. The Lord spoke to the kids from the youngest to older ones. The Lord provided the supplies. All were fed despite the numbers of children exceeding their expectation of 300.
•DAY 0NE - 800 + Children,
•DAY TWO - 1300 + Children,
•DAY THREE- OVER 1500 Children attended, and an unrecorded number of adults which included volunteers, parents and curious people from the community.
Over the Easter break a Children's Convention was organised by Mercy Church. This time of year it is a wet season and the Children’s Convention needed a lot of outdoor activity. It rained heavily just before the event and just after the Convention finished. They needed power for jumping castles and PA equipment, and the power at Mercy was not working for many days prior to the event. Electricity supply is very unreliable at Mercy Home and School, but for the Convention it came back on reliably.
In order to publicise the event, the children who had registered walked with this banner from the school a km or so up to the local shopping centre/markets then back down the highway with police escort to the school.
Pastor George Wanyonyi wrote:
"Awesome is an understatement to describe what the Lord has done.. The Lord visited us. He heard our prayers and answered our pleas. The Lord held the rains from from Tuesday 8th to Friday 11th (7 pm). The Lord endured un-interrupted power supplies for all the days of the event. It was a miracle. The Lord warmed up the Uriri Church and Community to be one family."
